At least one of the credited artists comes from Detroit, Michigan.
Entering the author's consciousness during a deep SoundCloud hole beginning with J!mmy Ston3r, late on a Friday night, the author presents rapper and producer Joey Sativa.A taste for kush a preference for weed raps aside, Joey Sativa is exceptional at making music; he is, however, only the featured artist on the current selection.
Muskogee Tre lists an Oklahoma phone number and not much else. But the song in question - titled "Roses" - is not concerned with any of the specifics. Carried by a light hi-hat/rimshot beat, the run is made up of a guitar, piano and trumpet. The tempo is slow and smoky. Some faint voices appear intermittently. Solemn like only a noire diner can, the verses come out of the past. Muskogee Tre is first, telling the object of his affection the trouble in moving forward while simultaneously being haunted by the past; honest and vulnerable. A little companionship goes a long way, though, as the soul comes out of him in a second, soulful R&B verse. For his part, Joey Sativa takes a headier approach. In the final verse, the concept of love is personified spreading its name wherever he goes. Both deliveries are fairly traditional, although by no means dated.
A strong hip-hop song for heads and purists that is also available for download.
Notable Mention: Muskogee Tre - "Another Second In The Life"
Muskogee Tre spreads the vision so vivid listeners might as well close their eyes or they will certainly miss it. Then again, the man also claims to have the mind of a wizard with God pocket; not to mention a robotic arm.
Over a hi-hat/snare rhythm, Muskogee Tre spits two verbose verses. The bass is heavy and the run comes care of a simple guitar. Reminiscent of the more left-field acts of the golden era, comparisons are not difficult to imagine. The imagery is creative and the flow is effortless. There is no hook per se, also a garbled chorus is heard at various points
Decidedly lighter than the above selection, it is nonetheless a good option to spark up the weekend as it is also available for download.
