Greatness cannot be constrained.
Like MacArthur the formidable must eventually return and conquer.
For its part, CDM has done its part. No blemishes appear on its record that would merit dismissal. What is surprising, though, is the quick turnaround. After all, the last Casa da Mãe song, after all, is only a month old.
"Kimba" is much more accessible than "Safadas da Noite." Rather than a slow tarracho, the duo opts for a mid-tempo batida. In typical CDM fashion the track grows and is rich in percussion. The underlying rhythm is a hi-hat/kick, and the main support comes from an additional drum. A shaker, djembe, and other digital drums also make an appearance. In addition to the ambient synth behind the harmony, another synth maintains the groove and melody.
As a whole "Kimba" swings hardly so much so that the make is easy to overlook; and fortunately available for download.
Notable Mention: Dj MaboOku [CDM] - "Future"
Greatness also finds a way of escaping.
Like Napoleon on Elba, MaboOku takes a moment to commandeer the show. Released on the same day as "Kimba," the song that follows does not share much else in common with its predecessor. Similar to "Bruxo," this new track finds the Dj engaging a jazzier side of his production; but in this case, too, the pool of commonalities is shallow.
Save for a vocal sample, the song below is very much garage. Titled "Future," the melody is carried by a liquid synth while two other provide harmony. The song is made up of two sections broken up by an interlude and an introduction; each of which is surprisingly long as MaboOku takes his time in developing his ideas. The hi-hat and woodblocks share the responsibility for carrying the groove while calps cover eighth notes and kick to the quarters. Bass all the while, is bouncing around like a dictator looking for asylum.
A good song with some promising new ideas; also fortunately available for download.
