Dj BeBeDeRa- "Rijura Do Zdbii"

Burn the dictionary.

There is another, much more reliable source, for all of humanity's definition needs.

As a composer, Duke Ellington was nothing short of an icon. The body of work is exemplary. Much overlooked, however, are the man's linguistic contributions. Cab Calloway wrote the Hepster's Dictionary. Ornette Coleman coined the phrase free-jazz many years later. But Ellington was more than a mere musician could;  the bandleader at New York's Cotton Club was able to coin a phrase as well. Most recognizable when tickling the ivories, though, the semantic facet of this jazz innovator's repertoire is largely remains overlooked.

If for no other reason, the author will repeat that "it" - music, dance, entertainment! - mean nothing at all, without "that swing."

Such a sentiment, as it turns out, can also be applied to the current selection. Titled "Rijura Do Zdbii," what follows is a mid-tempo kuduro independent beat-maker Dj BeBeDeRa; evident by the kick/snare beat. In lieu of a muted trumpet, the independent an accordion carries the melody instead. The free-reed instrument takes on two different appearances, but is not the only element to do so. Similarly, the rhythm briefly comes to include some snare. The is laid out as Introduction-A-B-A-C-B-D-A-Outro; 'A' being the head and each subsequent section a variation. As far as walking, syncopated triplets, the track is not on the forefront of innovation. When combined with the conga hitch, though, the results are a hot thing.

What more can be said? The song swings hard - bate bem.

Notable Mention: DeeJay-BoOWest feat. K30 - "Caringuetchimue (Txiga Remix)"

The second selection fearlessly follows what BeBeDera has started .

Originally a straight kuduro, "Caringuetchimue" is dubbed by Nagrelha, the vocalist, as a responsible project. Nonetheless, vocals hype the quick snare beat over the edge during the the course of a four minute run-time. Accordion largely covers the melody as horn occasionally harmozies. The bouncing bass is never far behind.

The current focus, however, rests on a remix. Posted earlier today by Portugal based, Luanda born producer DeeJay-BoOWest, the song bears a prominent Firma do Txiga co-sign. As such, on of the crew's beat-makers, Dj K30, makes an appearance; albeit uncredited. Regardless, "Caringuetchimue (Txiga Remix)," is a captivating piece of work. Of immediate note is that Nagrelha's vocals act nearly as white noise to BoOWest's beat. The rhythm is now carried by clap/closed hi-hat, instead. But central to the song are the supporting elements. A chickenscratch guitar plays just an important rhythmic role as it does a melodic one. The new bassline is more succinct but just as, if not more effective than the original.

While unexpected, the download is more than recommended.
